ARE AUDORN CHAINS SOLID GOLD?

Yes. This company was founded by a former science teacher who is passionate about purity. All pieces are 100% homogenous, meaning they are not gold-bonded or gold-plated. These are cost savings techniques that only coat the exterior in gold used by many companies!

Gold-plating is a low cost method of production that places a thin layer of gold to a base metal.

Gold-bonded involves coating 925 sterling silver with a layer of gold, then providing an antioxidant solution on the exterior.

Both methods are prone to scratching and exposing the base metal underneath.

We believe in purity. Pieces that will stand the test of time and never fail - because they have nothing to hide.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K and 24K GOLD?

Gold purity is indicated by the markers 10K, 14K, 18K, and 24K. K is an abbreviation for 'karat.' This term is frequently confused with 'carat,' which measures the weight of gems. The highest gold karat level is 24K, representing 100% purity. 18K gold is 75% pure, 14K is 58.3% pure, and 10K is 41.7% pure.

Pure gold is very soft and not suitable for everyday wear. It is the most malleable and ductile of all elements, so it is easily bent, scratched, and reshaped.

Any gold grade below 24K is blended with metals like copper, nickel, and silver to form an alloy. Each metal used in the alloy contributes distinct traits in terms of color, weight, brittleness, and malleability. In broad terms, these non-gold metals are typically more affordable, tougher, and lighter than gold.

We use...

18K Gold

Pros: highest purity for all practical jewelry use; has amazing depth of golden color

Cons: higher purity makes it a more expensive karat weight; still easily scratched

This is the purest form of gold used extensively in jewelry, including watches. It has a rich, warm golden hue and is what people typically imagine when they think of gold jewelry. But because gold is naturally so soft, and 18K gold is 75% pure, it can be easily scratched with daily wear and tear.

18K gold is significantly more expensive than 14K and 10K gold because it has such high purity. But a nice benefit of that high purity level is that there’s less risk of jewelry made with 18K gold causing skin irritations or allergic reactions.
